The Virginia League Corporate Federal Credit Union (now VACORP FCU) was chartered by the Virginia Credit Union League in 1976. A letter was sent to all Virginia credit unions announcing the formation of the Corporate and what it could offer member credit unions. Three days after the announcement, a credit union manager from Front Royal FCU replied with a short note and a $75,000.00 check representing all the available cash of the credit union.

Within a few months of its chartering, VACORP deposits exceeded $2.5 million. From the first deposit, VACORP has remembered its first obligation is to protect the funds credit unions entrust for care and keeping. In 2003, VACORP’s field of membership was expanded to a national level.
